Question:

What is the ruling on putting animals in a zoo and captivating them for their viewing?

Answer:

”We are unaware of anything which prevents this. There is no harm in that because thereis something of benefit in it for the people to know these animals and to stand before them. There is no harm in that. They know the animals and they watch them. If the one who captivated them takes care of their needs, he provides for their needs from food and drink [then no problem]. If he captivates them and provides for their needs, then their is no harm inshallah”. End translation. [Reference]
