Abdurahman Abdul-Khaliq [b. 1939]

Abdurahman Abdul-Khali, a political activist who supposedly speaks under the name of Salafiyyah while in reality the matter is as Ash-Shaykh Muqbil rahimahullah mentioned that it is feared he was sent to infiltrate and corrupt as-Salafiyyah.

Abdurahman Abdul-Khaliq was born in Egypt and raised in the midst of the Muslim Brotherhood Movement. Thus, Abdurahman Abdul-Khaliq became strongly attached to Sayyid Qutb and other important figures of the Ikhwanul Muslimeen Movement. When Abdurahman Abdul-Khaliq was 17 years old, he travelled to Saudi Arabia whereby he met and took knowledge from a number of the scholars there and learnt much about the Salafi Da’wah. Hence, he obtained his Islamic education from there. Abdurahman Abdul-Khaliq remained in Saudi for nine consecutive years, then moved to Kuwait in the year 1965 where he joined the Muslim Brotherhood Movement. However, due to disputes between them and differing over various issues, Abdurahman Abdul-Khaliq isolated himself from them. At this stage, Abdurahman Abdul-Khaliq engaged in teaching where he attracted a number of the youth to him and started to call to Salafiyyah. As the years passed, Abdurahman Abdul-Khaliq was driven to come with a updated version of Salafiyyah suitable for modern times. Unfortunately, this new trend of Salafiyyah that was introduced by Abdurahman Abdul-Khaliq was inspired from old teachings of Sayyid Qutb. Hence, Abdurahman Abdul-Khaliq became more indulged into the topic of establishing Tawheed al-Haakimiyyah in many of his books and lectures. Abdurahman Abdul-Khaliq described this new version of Salafiyyah with some of the following words:

“The Salafi Da’wah is Jihad in all that the word ‘Jihad’ carries of meanings. This Jihad has been established to return the right to legislate to its rightful Owner…”

In the year 1981, Abdurahman Abdul-Khaliq along with others established the organization called Jam’iat Ihya Turath [i.e The Society of the Revival of Islamic Heritage], an organization which started as a publishing company printing books including the books of Sayyid Qutb, in specific the book “Milestones”. While this organization began to develop and become more involved in the field of Da’wah, it gradually became the sponsor for other groups and organizations under the verdict of Abdurahman Abdul-Khaliq that having multiple groups in Islam is permissible and that creating these groups in a muslim country doesn’t require the ruler’s permission. As a result of this, many muslim communities were becoming divided as new groups were arising that Ihya Turath was funding and supporting.

During the crisis of Bosnia, Abdurahman Abdul-Khaliq urged the youth of Kuwait to go for Jihad and he claimed it was mandatory upon all the Muslims to go do Jihad in Bosnia although Abdurahman Abdul-Khaliq didn’t go himself. Abdurahman Abdul-Khaliq through his strong attachment to the books of Sayyid Qutb began to build up evil tendencies in declaring Muslim societies to be disbelievers and began applauding riots and revolutions in Muslim countries. Abdurahman Abdul-Khaliq would author a number of books while being upon this influence. Thus, it emanated from him a number of errors which the scholars brought to his attention, in specific Shaykh Bin Baaz rahimahullah.

From those observations made against Abdurahman Abdul-Khaliq was his statement:

“Scholars of Saudi Arabia are totally unaware and ignorant of contemporary problems… [and that] their Salafiyyah is a traditional worthless one.”

And his statement:

“That demonstrations were amongst the means that the Prophet [peace be upon him] used to make Da`wah by.”

In the year 2012, Abdurahman Abdul-Khaliq made his first appearance in Egypt since the year 1956 wherein he was welcomed through a number of people and from the first in line to welcome Abdurahman Abdul-Khaliq upon his arrival was Abu Ishaaq al-Huwaini who described the visit of Abdurahman Abdul-Khaliq to Egypt as a remarkable event that requires standing for. Also, from those who were at the forefront to welcome Abdurahman Abdul-Khaliq upon his arrival was Muhammad Hassaan.

Abdurahman Abdul-Khaliq mentioned he was the one who encouraged the concept of having multiple groups and parties in Egypt. Recently during this year, Abdurahman Abdul-Khaliq appeared on a broadcasting channel with Muhammad Hassaan and Muhammad Abdu Maqsuud to address a number of issues including Egyptian politics and from what Abdurahman Abdul-Khaliq was asked on was the ruling of celebrating ‘freedom day’. Hence, Abdurahman Abdul-Khaliq replied there is no harm in doing so and that it is a happy day to celebrate [i.e. in a muslim country] .

Sadly, Abdurahman Abdul-Khaliq’s condition has deteriorated severely. Being this is the case, a group of salafi scholars continue to warn from him and his ikhwani tendencies, the first to warn from him being Ash-Shaykh Albany rahimahullah, Ash-Shaykh Muhammad bin Saalih al-Uthaymeen rahimahullah, Ash-Shaykh Muqbil rahimahullah, Ash-Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan, and many other great scholars.
