Al-Aqeedatul-Waasityyah is a text that has been highly praised by the Scholars and recommended to study. The following are some of the reasons why it is such an important text:
1. It relies on what came in the Book of Allah, Sunnah of His Messenger (ﷺ), and what the Salaf of the Ummah have agreed upon. Shaikhul Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy upon him) said himself: “I was eager in this ‘Aqeedah to follow the Quran and Sunnah” [Majmoo’ al-Fatawa (3/165)].
And he (may Allah have mercy upon him) said: “For everything I mentioned, I have mentioned a verse or Hadith or the consensus of the Salaf” [Majmoo’ al-Fatawa (3/189)]
2. It encompasses the Aqeedah of the Salaf. Shaikhul Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy upon him) said himself: “I did not bring forth except the Aqeedah of the Salaf, all of them” [Majmoo’ al-Fatawa 3/197)]
3. The author worked very hard to mention the pure Aqeedah of the Saved Sect. Shaikhul Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy upon him) said: “I gave everyone who opposed me in anything of the Aqeedah three years. If anyone came with a single letter from the three generations, which the Prophet (ﷺ) praised, which opposes what I mentioned, then I would retract from that” [Majmoo’ al-Fatawaa (3/169)]
4. It is small in size but blessed. It includes most of the Aqeedah issues a person needs to know.
Imam adh-Dhahabi (may Allah have mercy upon him) said: “A consensus has been established that this creed [i.e. al-Waasityyah] is Salafi, good” [al-‘Uqood ad-Durriyyah (pg. 262)]
Hafidh Ibn Rajab (may Allah have mercy upon him) said: “A consensus has been established that this Aqeedah is Sunni, Salafi” [adh-Dhayl ‘ala Tabaqaat al-Hanaabilah (2/396)]
Shaikh as-Sa’adi (may Allah have mercy upon him) said: “It (al-Waasityyah), despite its conciseness and clarity, includes all of what is obligatory to believe in from the foundations of Imaan and the sound creed” [at-Tanbihaat al-Lateefah (pg. 6)]
The above benefits were derived from the publisher’s introduction to the Explanation of Shaikh Ahmad an-Najmi’s book (may Allah have mercy upon him) entitled: ‘at-Ta’leeqaat al-‘Athariyyah ‘alal-Aqeedatil-Wasitiyyah’.
