Question:

What is the ruling on those who give Dawah along with mentioning their previous sins as an encouragement for those that they are giving Dawah to?

Answer:

Shaikh Abdul-Muhsin al-‘Abbad (may Allah preserve him) discouraged that.

He was asked:

Some callers are afflicted in this time of mentioning many stories and mentioning the places of disobdience and the repentance of some people. So it is allowed for a caller to narrate the likes of these stories?

The summary of his answer is the following:

“It is not necessary for a person to mention something like this. He mentions what is in the Book of Allah and the Hadith about repentance and he keeps silent. Especially if a person mentions himself. Some people discuss about themselves and say [they did] such and such. It is not necessary [to mention] haram affairs. He mentions the issue and should not expose himself. A person may hear this and do [this disobedience] and say when we get older we will become like that man [who repented from it]”.
