It is prohibited to sell cats like it is prohibited to sell dogs

Abu Zubair said:
I asked Jabir about the price of a dog and a cat. He said, “Allah’s Messenger [ﷺ] disapproved of that.”

[Saheeh Muslim]

Shaikh Bin Baz rahimahullah said:

“The first two Ahaadith indicate the prohibition of selling dogs and that their price is filth. The Prophet [ﷺ] disapproved the price of the dog and the price of the (السِّنَّوْرِ) and it is the cat. It is not allowed to sell cats…”

[al-Ifhaam Sharh Umdatul-Ahkaam (1/535)]

Imam Shawkani rahimahullah said:

“In this Hadith is evidence for the prohibition of selling cats. This was said by  [i.e. was the opinion of] Abu Hurairah, Mujaahid, Jabir ibn Zaid, and that was quoted from Ibnul-Munthir. Ibnul-Munthir aslo quoted that from Tawus. The majority took the view of the permissibility of selling the cat and they responded to this Hadith that preceded by weakening it. You [the reader] know the defense for that. It was said: the prohibition is carried to mean dislike and that selling it is not from moral character and chivalry. It is not hidden that this [argument] is removing the prohibition from its real meaning without a [valid] cause/reason”.

[Nayl al-Awtaar (5/172)]

So it is prohibited to sell it according to the more correct opinion and the Hadith is in Saheeh as found in Saheeh Muslim.
