“Shaykh Abdul-Muhsin Al-Abbaad was asked:

Question:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said:

and obesity will appear among them

is obesity prohibited [based on this]?

Answer:

As is well-known, obesity is blameworthy. However, it is a result of eating and drinking, extravagance, and increase. Of course, it is not desirable. It is upon a person not to be extravagant in eating and drinking. He should be moderate as Allah says:

وَالَّذِينَ إِذَآ أَنفَقُواْ لَمْ يُسْرِفُواْ وَلَمْ يَقْتُرُواْ وَكَانَ بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ قَوَاماً

And those, who, when they spend, are neither extravagant nor niggardly, but hold a medium (way) between those (extremes)” [25:67]”.

End quote. [Sharh Sunan Tirmidhi no. 242]

“Shaykh Abdul-Muhsin Al-Abbaad was asked:

Question:

If obesity is blameworthy, is it upon a person who is afflicted by that to seek treatment?

Answer:

No doubt if a person is capable of being healthy from obesity, which harms him and does not benefit him and he is capable of curing himself, then this is something good.” End quote. [Sharh Sunan Tirmidhi no. 242]
