The Hadeeth:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said,

“I fear upon you six things: […] A group of young people who begin to take the Quran as musical tunes; they put forward one amongt themselves to lead while he is not the most knowledgeable of them, but [doing so] merely to sing [the Quran] for them.”

Reported by al-Imam Ahmad and others. Declared authentic by Shaykh Albany rahimahullah.

” End translation.

Note: Al-Imam Shawkani rahimahullah mentions when commenting on this narration that ليس غرضهم إلا الالتذاذ و الاستماع بتلك الألحان و الأوضاع the objective behind their actions is to merely enjoy the musical melodies of those recitations. Therefore, let us be reminded to be those who seek to benefit from the Quran by way of pondering over its meanings and wordings. There is no harm in enjoying, along with that, a recitation from a talented recitor who doesn’t take the recitation out of its original form and out of its set of rules, making it become like musical tunes and melodies.
