Shaykh Saalih Al-Fawzaan was asked:

Question:

“The questioner, may Allah preserve you, says it comes in some phone messages, ‘send prayers upon the prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم and send it (for example) to ten people so you can attain [such and such good deed]’. What is the ruling of doing that?”

Answer:

“This is an innovation, This is an innovation. The origin of sending prayers upon the prophet is legislated and good, but specifying it to a number and sending it to such and such [people], then this is an innovation (and) there is no proof for it. Yes.”
