Ash-Shaykh Muqbil, rahimahullah, was asked the following question,

ما حكم الذين يستعملون الحقن الطبية في رمضان وهو صائم ؟

Question:

“What is the ruling on taking injections for medical reasons in the month of Ramadan when fasting?

من أهل العلم من يقول : إذا كانت مغذية فلا ، وإذا كانت غير مغذية فلا بأس بذلك .

Answer:

“Some of the scholars say if they are nutritive injections, then no [i.e they aren’t allowed] and if they are not nutritive injections, then they are okay.”

“As for me, then I advise you to break your fast since you are sick and Allaah the Most High, says [from what it means],

‘But if any of you is ill or on a journey, the same number [should be made up] from other days.’ [2:184]

Hence, I advise you to break your fast, and when you become healthier, you could make up for it and by this you save yourself from any doubts [pertaining to your fast] and from any difficulties.” End. Note: Ash-Shaykh Muqbil rahimahullah has stated in another verdict of his that he only deems the nutritive injections to be what breaks the fast although he, rahimahullah, mentioned that the safer stance is to avoid the likes of these medical injections during the day of Ramadan. The opinion of Shaykh Albany and Shaykh Muhammad bin Saalih al-Uthaymeen is that the ruling for breaking the fast only applies to the nutritive injections and not to all injections, whether they be intravenous or intramuscular injections.

A Side Note: Ash-Shaykh Sa’ad Shitree, hafidaho-Allah, mentions on the following clip which was recorded in November 2018 that through modern day research it has been proven that insulin has certain effects on the internal body which resemble the nutritive injections. Therefore, the Shaykh hafidaho-Allah advises that a person be cautious concerning this matter by avoiding insulin during the day of Ramadan, and that he should take it in the night instead by leaving a time period between his intake of insulin and his evening meal.
