Ash-Shaykh Muhammad bin Saalih al-Uthaymeen rahimahullah said:
“… As for if he performs it [i.e. qunoot] resembling the description of musical tunes, then this is not valid, nor possible [i.e. absolutely not tolerated]. The people are not in need of listening to a speech similar to music. However, they are in need of a supplication which they could make qunoot with for Allah’s sake.” End translation. Audio attached.

“…As for supplicating with intonation, then from what is appropriate is that it shouldn’t be like the intonation of musical melodies. However, to soften one’s voice with it in a way that the listeners could attain khusho’ [i.e. submission] by [way of it] and so their hearts become attentive by it, then there is no harm in it.” End translation.
