The Lajnah ad-Da’imah was asked the following question:

Question:

“Is it permissible for old Muslim women to shake hands with non-Mahrams (not a spouse or an unmarriageable relative)?”

Answer:

“It is not permissible for old Muslim woman or others to shake hands with a man who is non-Mahram for her.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “I do not shake hands with women.” This Hadith was reported by Malik, Ibn Majah, Ahmad and Al-Nasa’y.

This Hadith includes all women whether young or old in order to avoid temptation.

May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
