Question:

What is the ruling on entering churches and places of worship of the disbelievers? (For purposes of spreading islam, or attending to witness a procession for a school assignment, or just being lenient and tolerant)?

Answer:

It is not permissible to enter upon the disbelievers in their places of worship since it will increase their numbers and also due to that which Al Bayhaaqee has reported with an authentic chain from Umar radiallahu anhu “and do not enter upon the polytheists in their churches and places of worship for the anger descends upon them”. However, if it is due to a legislative benefit or to call them to Allah and the likes, then there is no problem.
