قال الشيخ/ سليمان الرحيلي وفقه الله:

يقول العلماء:
في لزوم سنة النبي ﷺ الكفاية، لكن النبي ﷺ قال: (وسنّة الخلفاء الراشدين المهديّين)؛ لنعلم أن الاستقامة على السنة تحتاج إلى فهم الصحابة، فليس كل من قرأ حديثا فهمه على وجهه الصحيح، وإنما الفهم الصحيح فهم صحابة رسول الله ﷺ.

Ash Shaykh Sulayman ar Ruhaylee said:

The scholars say in sticking to the Sunnah of the prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم is sufficiency. However the prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم said “[…] and the Sunnah of the four rightly guided Khaleefahs” so that we may know that being upright upon the Sunnah is in need of the understanding of the Companions. Thus, not everyone who reads a Hadeeth has understood it correctly. The correct understanding is the understanding of the companions of the messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه و سلم.
