The Ayah:

(Verily I have answered the supplication for both of you). [Surah Yunis, verse 89]

Commentary:

“Prophet Musa made the du’a and Harun said amin”. End. [Tafsir at-Tabari].

The Hadith:

Umm Darda’ reported:

My husband reported that he heard Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: He who supplicates for his brother behind his back (in his absence), the Angel commissioned (for carrying supplication to his Lord) says, “Amin, and for you the same.”

Reported by Muslim.

The Narration:

Mu’awiya ibn Qurra said, “When Iyas was born to me, I invited a group of the Companions of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and I fed them and they made supplication. I said, ‘You have made supplication, so may Allah bless you for your supplication. If I make supplication, then you say, “Amin”.’ He went on, ‘I made a lot of supplication for him for his deen, his intellect and things like that.’ He added, ‘I still recognise the supplication of that day in him.”

Reported by al-Bukhari in al-Adab al-Mufrad. Graded saheeh by Shaykh Albani rahimahullah.

Note: Shaykh Abdur-Rahman al-Baraak, hafidahullah, mentioned that the aforementioned act shouldn’t be taken as a habit and a tradition that is constantly practiced, especially in relation to cases where there is no proof for it. [Reference]
