“The student of knowledge in the past used to listen in order to learn, would learn in order to act [according to what he learned], and would gain understanding in the religion in order to attain benefit and thus benefit [others]. And now, it has become so that he [student of knowledge] hears in order to gather [information], gathers so that he can be mentioned, and memorizes in order to brag and boast and achieve supremacy
