Ibnul Qaiyum mentions that the sickness of the heart is two types:
1. Which its companion doesn’t feel pain due to it, such as the sickness of ignorance, desires, and doubts.
This sickness is the greatest in pain but due to the corruption of the heart, he doesn’t feel the pain. The drunkenness of the ignorance and desires places a barrier between him and feeling the pain.
The way this is cured is by the messengers and their followers; they are the doctors of this sickness.
2. A sickness which one feels in certain situations, such as anxiety, distress, sadness, anger. This sickness can be cured by natural medicines such as staying away from its means, being persistent upon that which opposes those means….
