Shaikh Abdul Muhsin al-‘Abbad hafidhuhallah was asked:

Question:

What is the ruling on visiting relatives, living or dead, on the day of Eid?

Answer:

As for visiting the graves on the day of Eid or day of Jummah or specifying a specific day, that is not allowed. As for visiting relatives on the day of Eid and going to them and supplicating for them, then there is no harm in that. As for specifying visiting graves on the day of Eid or Jummah or a specific a day, then a person does not do that”

Question:

Here with us in Europe, when the men go out to the Eid prayer, they make Takbir and say ‘La ilaha illah Allah’ until they reach the masjid. Is this action reported from the Prophet sallahu alayhi wa salam:

Answer:

Yes, Takbir on the day of Eid and the night of Eid is legislated. Allah mentions that in surah al-Baqarah:

وَلِتُكْمِلُواْ الْعِدَّةَ وَلِتُكَبِّرُواْ اللَّهَ عَلَى مَا هَدَاكُمْ

(He wants that you) must complete the same number (of days), and that you must magnify Allah [i.e. to say Takbir (Allahu-Akbar; Allah is the Most Great) on seeing the crescent of the months of Ramadan and Shawwal] for having guided you
