Question:
What is the ruling on at-Tasbeeh?
Answer:
Salaatu Tasbeeh on the correct opinion according to a group of the scholars is unauthentic and in opposition to the appearance of the ordinary prayers while its chains containing weakness therein.
Shaykhul Islaam Bin Taymiyyah, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:
“…The best of what was narrated from the likes of these prayers is Salaatu Tasbeeh which was reported by Abu Dawud and at-Tirmidi ”
“Despite of this, none from the four imams used to see it (as being legislated). Rather, Imam Ahmad declared the hadeeth to be weak and he would not see the likes of these prayers to be recommended to perform”
“…So it is not permissible to affirm such a hadeeth and whosever ponders over the guidelines of the fundamentals of the deen, (then) he will come to know (that) it is something fabricated ”
“And the likes of it, for verily all of it are hadeeths that are fabricated and lies, as been agreed by the scholars of this speciality”
Majmoo’ul Fataawa (11/579)
Some of the shuyookh mentioned that many of those who attempted to pray it usually do prostration of forgetfulness when praying it due to the confusion that can be found in it. And Allah knows best.
“Salat-ul-Tasabih is not Mashru‘ (Islamically prescribed), as the Hadith that is reported regarding it is not authentically narrated from the Prophet (peace be upon him). It also differs from the prescribed Salahs in regard to its form, words and actions, which is evidence that it is not prescribed. Certainly, the Salahs authentically reported from the Prophet (peace be upon him) are perfectly sufficient to dispense with this strange Salah, which is incompatible with what is known of the Purified Shar‘ (Law).May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.”
