Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen was asked:
Question:
A person borrowed a usurious loan from the bank and then he repented to Allah. The bank continues to subtract an amount monthly from his salary to pay for the loan which he took. He does not have enough money to pay the loan and he wants to leave the bank. Is there any sin on him if he repays them until the loan is gone?
Answer :
“The answer for him is to free himself from this usury because the Prophet (ﷺ) cursed usury, the one who consumes, and the one who pays it. According to his ability. Either he borrows from his brothers and friends and pays the bank in order that they drop the usury. What is important is that he manages himself. If it is not possible, then he should be eager to plead with the bank regarding taking this addition [usury]. However, what I know is that the banks do not agree to this. They want their right.
Questioner:
However, O Shaikh. He is not able to leave the Bank until he pays the loan which is upon him
Shaikh:
He repays by borrowing from his brothers and friends. He repays it”.
