Imam As Saadee mentioned:
“The intention has two categories:
- Intention for action itself, and;
- Intention for whom the action is done
As for intention for the action, then it is also two categories:
- Distinguishing acts of worship from habitual ones.
- Distinguishing acts of worship from one another (E.g. obligatory from voluntary)
As for the second category, it being the intention for whom the act is done, then it is that the doer intends by his action the face of Allah and the Hereafter. Here is where the creation varies to an extent none are aware of except Allah.
The individual is rewarded in accordance to his intention if he is not able to perform the action while his intent is that if it weren’t that he is not able to perform it, he would have performed it. As the prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم said,
“When a slave falls ill or travels, then he will get reward similar to that he gets for good deeds practiced at home when in good health.”
