“Narrated Anas bin Malik: A man asked the Prophet (ﷺ) ‘When will the Hour be established O Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)?’ The Prophet (ﷺ) said, ‘What have you prepared for it?’ The man said, ‘I haven’t prepared for it much of prayers or fast or alms, but I love Allah and His Apostle.’ The Prophet (ﷺ) said, ‘You will be with those whom you love.'”
Imam Al Uthaymeen said,
“In this narration is evidence that the affair should not be that a person asks when he will die or where will he die? Rather, upon what condition will he die? Will he die upon a good ending or a bad one? For that reason he ﷺ said, ‘What have you prepared for it?’, meaning do not ask regarding it (the Hour) for it will come. Allah says,
‘They ask you (O Muhammad (صلى الله عليه و سلم ) about the Hour, – when will be its appointed time?’
Allah says,
‘People ask you concerning the Hour. Say, ‘The knowledge of it is with Allah only. What do you know? It may be that the Hour is near!”‘
Allah says,
‘And what can make you know that perhaps the Hour is close at hand?’
Thus the affair is what have you prepared for it? Have you done deeds? Have you returned to your Lord? Have you repented from your sins? This is what is important.” End translation. [Sharh Riyaadus Saliheen 3/250-251]
