The Tafseer of the Ayah

So whoever has received an admonition from his lord and desists may have what has past and his affair rests with Allaah.

[2/275]

Ash-Shaykh al-Uthaymeen, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said:

“That which a person has earned from Ribaa (transactions) before having knowledge (that these earnings are Haraam) is Halaal for him with the condition that he makes Tawbah and desists (from increasing in Ribaa) due to His, The Most High, statement:

So whoever has received an admonition from his lord and desists may have what has past and his affair rests with Allaah.

As for the Ayah

But if you repent, you may have your capital sums (of your earnings). Deal not unjustly (by asking more than your capital sums) and you shall not be dealt with unjustly (be receiving less than your capital sums).

[2/279]

Then the Scholars of Tafseer have mentioned that this Ayah is regarding an individual who the proofs and evidences that affirm the impermissibility of Ribaa have reached him. So when he makes Tawbah from such an act then it is only allowed for him to possess his capital.
