Shaykh Al Uthaymeen mentioned that Shukr does not have a prayer which has in it standing and Ruku. Rather, there is Sujood Ash-Shukr. Thus, if Allah bestows upon you a new bounty, then you can do Sujood Ash-Shukr. Regarding generally one doing acts of worship out of thankfulness to Allah, there is no problem with that. The scholars mentioned as evidence for that the narration when the prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم prayed the night prayer until his legs became swollen and when asked about it he said, ‘افلا اكون عبدا شكورا – shall I not he a thankful slave’
Shaykh Al-Islaam mentioned:
مذهب أهل السنة : أن الشكر يكون بالاعتقاد والقول والعمل
“The way of Ahlus Sunnah is [believing] that Shukr is with beliefs, statements, and actions” End translation.
But the problem is some people believe that if they don’t give charity, they are not being thankful. And we have seen this at times. For example, someone passes an exam, he gives money in charity, and if he doesn’t, he believes that he was disobedient and this is not correct to assume.
