Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen said:
“For that reason it is obligatory that we know that preventing the slaves from that which the legislation hasn’t indicated it being prevented is like permitting them in regards to that which the legislation has indicated it being prevented.
Because Allah has made them the same. He said:
و لا تقولوا لما تصف السنتكم الكذب هذا حلال و هذا حرام
And say not concerning that which your tongues put forth falsely: “this is lawful and this is impermissible”
[16:116]
Rather one may say prohibiting that which is permissible is greater (in crime) than making permissible that which is prohibited, because the origin is that it is permissible and Allah loves easiness for his servants”
