From the ways to avoid that [becoming arrogant due to seeking knowledge] is by:
- Always looking at those who are better than you in knowledge and good deeds, and not to look at those who are lesser than you
- Reminding oneself that this knowledge that you have obtained was not obtained due to your intelligence; rather it was a favor from Allah upon you
- Increasing in [gaining] knowledge for verily the more you know, the more humble you become
- Realizing that no one is better than the other except in piety
- Pondering over what Allah has prepared for those who are humble
- Reading the biographies of the scholars, [and pondering over the fact] that the knowledge [they attained] only increased them in humility for Allah
