A person has many music related items like CDs, musical instruments and the likes that are worth a decent amount of money. Since it wouldn’t be halaal money earned by selling these items, the should one dispose of this?

Answer:

If they are rewritable CDs [i.e. you can erase what was on the CD and write something else to them], place Quran or lectures on the CDs instead inshaa Allah.
