Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy upon him):
“This is the cause for the appearance of innovation in every nation. It is the disappearance of the Sunnan of the Messengers among them. So due to that the destruction occurred. So like this they [i.e. the Salaf] said: “Holding fast to the Sunnah is salvation” [ Majmoo’ al-Fatawa (4/137)]
