The Prophet, alayhi as-salaatu was salaam, mentioned:

الرأس صورة

“The head is the picture”

The aforementioned hadeeth is on the authority of Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, which was authenticated by Shaykh Albany and others.

Some took from the above hadeeth that the picture is actually the head, and not merely the features of the face. For example, having the nose or the eyes, whereas if the head is still there, then it is still a picture of a soul based upon the aforementioned hadeeth. And Allah knows best.
