The following is a du’a (i.e. supplication, invocation) which the Prophet, alayhi as-salaatu was-salaam, use to make, as been reported by at-Tabaraanee in his book ‘ ad-Du’a’ on the authority of Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him:
اللهمَّ إني أعوذُ بكَ…من خليلٍ ماكر عينَه تراني، وقلبُه يرعاني؛ إن رأى حسنة دفنها، وإذا رأى سيّئةً أذاعها)
That the Messenger of Allah, alayhi as-salaatu was-salaam, use to say in his du’a “Oh Allah I seek refuge in you from a companion who plots (against me); his eyes observe me and his heart spys on me; if he sees any good (from me) he conceals it and if he sees any bad (from me) he exposes it”
The above hadeeth has been authenticated by al-Imaam al-Albany, may Allah have mercy upon him, as found in his book as-Silsilatu as-Saheehah (3137).
Side Note: Ash-Shaykh Albany, may Allah have mercy upon him, use to end some of his works of research with this du’a.
The translation of the word:وقلبُه يرعاني؛ was based upon the explanation of Ash-Shaykh Albany where he said it means (أي: يتجسس علي)
