Ash-Shaykh Muhammad bin Saalih al-Uthaymeen, rahimahullah, was asked the following question,
Question:
ما حكم عقد التسبيح باليسرى مع اليمنى؟ يقولون أنه لم يثبت عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم التسبيح باليسرى، فهل هذا صحيح؟
What is the ruling on performing tasbeeh through the left hand along with the right hand. They (some people) say it hasn’t been affirmed from the Prophet, alayhi salaatu was-salaam that he used to do tasbeeh with his left hand, so is this correct?
Answer:
نعم، هذا صحيح، لم يثبت عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم أنه كان يسبح باليسرى، وإنما جاء عنه أنه كان يعقد التسبيح بيمينه،
Yes, this is correct; it hasn’t been affirmed from the Prophet, alayhi salaatu was-salaam, that he used to do tasbeeh with his left hand. Rather it has only come that he used to perform tasbeeh through his right hand.
ولكن مع هذا لا ينكر على من سبح باليسرى، وإنما يقال: إن السنة الاقتصار على التسبيح باليمنى.
However, at the same time, the one who does tasbeeh with his left hand is not to be criticized. Rather, it is only to be said to him ‘the sunnah is to suffice oneself with doing tasbeeh through the right hand’
