Ash-Shaykh Yahya al-Hajooree, may Allah preserve him, was asked the following question,
Question:
A strong Student of Knowledge was invited to be an Imaam of a Masjid that has Jama’atu at-Tableegh therein, so does he agree, bearing in mind that they (i.e. Jama’atu at-Tableegh) establish their lectures in this mosque?
Answer:
The one who is capable of leading the people in prayer and he is able to establish the Sunnah and warn from innovations, then let him do so according to his capability. And as for the one who is merely an imam while someone else has authority in giving sermons, lectures and in giving da’wah and in other than that, then we advise him to search for himself another masjid in order that he does not see an act of evil while he is not capable of criticizing it or (be placed in a situation) where he probably will begin to incline to it (the innovations) throughout the duration of the days and time, for verily:
‘Wwhosoever accompanies a person he becomes alike to him’
and in saheeh al-Bukhaari and saheeh Muslim
‘The parable of a righteous companion and a evil companion is like the carrier of musk and the smithman’
So if you are capable of leading the people in prayer while being able to advise and to teach and to be patient and to warn from mistakes, whether it be the mistakes that emanated from Jama’atu at-Tableegh or other than them, then go ahead with it or else, Allah says when he was praising the believers:
والذين لا يشهدون الزور وإذا مروا باللغو مروا كراما
‘And those who do not witness falsehood, and if they pass by some evil play or evil talk, they pass by it with dignity.’
[25:72]
And from the evil talk is the fabricated hadeeths (which are read by Jama’atu at-Tableegh) and from the evil talk are (their) false statements
