عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ “ زُورُوا الْقُبُورَ فَإِنَّهَا تُذَكِّرُكُمُ الآخِرَةَ ” .
It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
“Visit the graves, for they will remind you of the Hereafter.”
Reported by Ibn Maajah and others. Graded authentic by Albany rahimahullah.
Note: It is unfortunate now that it takes someone to die for the only time for us to go to the graveyard, perhaps we drive pass the graveyard on a number of occasions and yet never think to stop by and pay a visit.
May Allaah pardon us for our short-comings.
Ponder over the ayah:
أَلْهَاكُمُ التَّكَاثُرُ
“The mutual rivalry for piling up worldly things diverts you”
حَتَّى زُرْتُمُ الْمَقَابِرَ
” Until you visit the graves (i.e. till you die).” [102:1-2]
Comment: Let it not be the only time you visit the graves be the time when you are actual dead.
