Shaykh Abdul Azeez Aal Ash-Shaykh was asked:

Question:

We hope from you guidance and advice for those who travel outside [the country] and live with a disbelieving family with the argument [that it helps in] learning the English language quickly?

Answer:

“If the Muslim is forced to travel to non Muslim lands, then it is upon him to fear Allah regarding himself and to be eager to preserve his religion. For verily, his religion is the more precious thing and most honorable of it. So he should observe his Islam, so it should not be cheap with him. For verily honor is in the religion and it is upon a Muslim to hold fast with his religion whatever place he travels to. He should beware from living and interacting with one who will transgress his religion. Living with a [a disbelieving] family, eating with them, sleeping with them, it is feared for a Muslim. Sometimes that will lead to falling into prohibitions and detestable actions. Sometimes that will lead him to leaving his religion and his Aqeedah. Oh Muslim, the religion is greater than everything, so preserve your religion if you are forced to travel to the lands of disbelief”
