Proof:

عن أنس بن مالك رضي الله عنه قال قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم :

” قيلوا فإن الشياطين لا تقيل ” .

رواه الطبراني في الأوسط و حسنه الألباني رحمه الله.

On the authority of Anas bin Malik, may Allah be pleased with him  said that the Prophet sallahu alayhi wa salam, said :

“Take a siesta (i.e. midday nap), for the devils do not take siestas.”

Reported by at-Tabaraani and authenticated by Al-Albani rahimahullah.

There are other scholars who have disputed pertaining to the authenticity of this hadeeth. However, there are other proofs to prove that the act of qayloolah was something established and praised in the time of the Prophet sallahu alayhi wa salam.

Some pointers concerning the act of Qayloolah:

1.  The Qayloolah can be merely a midday rest without sleep.

2.  The Qayloolah can be performed before Salaatul Dhur or after Salaatul Dhur. However, on Fridays, it is more preferable to be after Jum’ah instead of being before Jum’ah.

3.  The Qayloolah can be for a time period of five minutes to an hour.

4. It is not necessary that the Qayloolah be performed daily.

5. The Qayloolah is a great means and great help to perform the Tahajud prayer.

6. The Qayloolah brings comfort to the heart and to the mind.

7. The Qayloolah increases a person in memory and in understanding.

8. The Qayloolah brings much health benefits.

9. The act of Qayloolah was highly recommend and encouraged by the righteous predecessors.

10. The Qayloolah shouldn’t be performed by a person who sleeps more than eight hours in the night, as been suggested by Ibn Qudaamah rahimahullah.

The Qayloolah is a siesta in the middle of the day (نوم في وسط النهار) taken from the following verse:

﴿وَكَم مِّن قَرْيَةٍ أَهْلَكْنَـهَا فَجَآءَهَا بَأْسُنَا بَيَـتًا أَوْ هُمْ قَآئِلُونَ ﴾

“And a great number of towns We destroyed. Our torment came upon them by night or while they were taking their midday nap.” [7:4]

And the Qayloolah mainly occurs during the الظهيرة [i.e around Dhur time] as understood from the following verse:

وَحِينَ تَضَعُونَ ثِيَـابَكُمْ مِّنَ الظَّهِيرَةِ

“While you put off your clothes during the midpoint of the day” [24:58]

And the details on the length and the timings of the Qayloolah is mainly taken from the Arabic language and from the عرف [the customs and the norms of the Arabs].

Also, the Qayloolah could merely be the act of resting in the middle of the day without sleep as taken from the following verse:

أَصْحَابُ الْجَنَّةِ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَيْرٌ مُّسْتَقَرًّا وَأَحْسَنُ مَقِيلًا

“The dwellers of Paradise will, on that Day, have the best abode, and have the fairest of places for repose.” [25:24]

And we already know that the Qayloolah mentioned in this ayah has no sleep to it being it has been reported

on the noble Prophet sallahu alayhi wa salam that he said:

“Sleep is the sister of death, and the people of Paradise do not sleep.” [Authenticated by Albany rahimahullah]
