Question:

A person leading Jumu’ah has a microphone in his hand. So when raises his hand for the opening takbir, he only raises his left hand and his right hand holding the microphone near his chest. Is this permissible?

Answer:

He left off a sunnah only, the reason being is that the act of raising the hands in the prayer is not something compulsory.

Ash-Shaykh Muhammad bin Saalih al-Uthaymeen, rahimahullah, said:

رفع اليدين عند تكبيرة الإحرام، وعند الركوع، وعند الرفع منه، وعند القيام من التشهد الأول سنة.

“Raising the hands when making takbir al-ihram and when performing Rukoo and when rising from it and when standing from the first tashahud is [merely] a sunnah [i.e. it is not waajib].”
