Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan was asked:

Question:

[Regarding] the wearing of bracelets on the hand that are made of string has spread among the male students at school, what is your opinion on that?

Answer:

“This is haram. This is imitating women. Wearing bracelets are specific to women so the men do not wear it.

The Prophet  (ﷺ) cursed the men who imitate the women and women who imitate the men

Translator’s Note:

Mufti Muhammad Ibn Ibraahim ala Shaikh rahimahullah said:

“As for bracelets, it can either be made from gold or other than it. In any case, it is permissible for women in general. As for men, it is not allowed for them in general. If it is made of gold, then it is prohibited due to two reasons:

  1. It is made of gold.
  2. It involves imitating women.

If it is not made of gold, then the reason for its prohibition is because it involves imitating women…”
