It has been ascribed to Ash-Shaykh al-Uthaymeen that he said:

“We live in this dunya, while disobeying Allah day and night, (and) then we assume (that) we are guaranteed to enter Jannah. And we have forgotten that Aadam was prevented from the Jannah just for one sin!”

Whether this statement is authentic to the Shaykh or not, let us all not despair from the mercy of Allah,

As Ash-Shaykh Muhammad bin Saalih al-Uthaymeen rahimahullah said :

“If a person were to sincerely repent, then surely Allah, The Most High, will accept it from him, no matter how great the sin is”

And the proof is His statement:

“Say: “O ‘Ibadi (My slaves) who have transgressed against themselves (by committing evil deeds and sins)! Despair not of the Mercy of Allah, verily Allah forgives all sins. Truly, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.”

[39:53]

“And this (verse) is general; it contains no specification. (And let it be known) that whosoever repents from any sin, then surely Allah will accept his repentance from him”

The Prophet, alayhi salaatu was-salaam, used to recite the following dua in his sujood:

“Oh Allah! Forgive me all my sins, great and small, the first and the last, those that are apparent and those that are hidden”

So we should recite such a dua often, asking Allah that He pardons us for our sins and short-comings.
