The Lajnah ad-Da’imah, was asked the following question :

Question:

It is related on the authority of Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:   Three people invoke Allah, but their supplications are not answered and a man who lent another person some money without bringing a witness to it.

[Related by Al-Hakim in Al-Mustadrak and it is cited in Sahih Al-Jami`]

What is meant by this part of the Hadith?

Answer:

This Hadith must not be ascribed to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and its Matn (text of a Hadith) is rejected according to Al-Hafizh Al-Dhahaby (may Allah be merciful to him).

May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.

[An excerpt from alifta.net]

ثلاثة يدعون الله عز و جل فلا يستجاب لهم : رجل كانت تحته امرأة سيئة الخلق فلم يطلقها و رجل كان له على رجل مال فلم يشهد عليه و رجل آتى سفيها ماله و قال الله تعالى : { و لا تؤتوا السفهاء أموالكم }

The other two people mentioned in the hadeeth is a man who has a woman under him that possesses a bad character yet he doesn’t divorce her and the third one is a man who gave his wealth and property to the foolish while Allah, said

و لا تؤتوا السفهاء أموالكم

“And do not give your property to the foolish ones. “

[4:5]

Some scholars such as Shaykh Albany rahimahullah hold this hadeeth to be authentic. However, as mentioned above, some others see it to be weak, which may be the stronger opinion. And Allah knows best.
