Shaykh Saalih Al-Fawzaan was asked:

Question:

The last question, Shaikh: the Prophet (ﷺ) attended the Salatul-Taraweeh and he (ﷺ) was absent from it sometimes so not to obligate it upon the Ummah as was mentioned in a Hadith. Is it allowed for a person to do what the Prophet (ﷺ) did and be absent some nights [from Taraweeh] due to a circumstance or the likes?

Answer:

“No, the Prophet (ﷺ) is specific because he is the one who legislates. As for the Muslim, he does not leave off Taraweeh and he is not discharged from it in some nights. Rather, he should stand for Ramadan.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said:

مَنْ قَامَ رَمَضَانَ إِيمَانًا وَاحْتِسَابًا

Whoever prays during the night in Ramadan out of sincere faith and seeking its reward from Allah [Agreed upon]

All of Ramadan. All of the nights of Ramadan. Yes”
