I wanted to share this benefit pertaining to how to congratulate the one who got married. Many people make the mistake of hugging or shaking the hands or kissing the groom or bride while congratulating. The Sunnah is to just read the following remembrance. It’s important to teach the people this.

Narrated Abu Hurayrah:

When the Prophet (ﷺ) congratulated a man on his marriage, he said: May Allah bless for you, and may He bless on you, and combine both of you in good (works)

[Saheeh Sunan Abi Dawood no. 2130]

Shaikh Ibn ul-Uthaymeen rahimahullah said:

“From the benefits of the Hadith is that it is not legislated to shake hands when congratulating. The evidence is the lack of evidence. This is because the Messenger sallahu alayhi wa salam did not do it and if he did, it would have been reported by speech because it is far removed to believe the Companions would know a Sunnah combined with another Sunnah. That is: (it would have been the case that) the Messenger sallahu alayhi wa salam shook hands and said the remembrance then they report the remembrance and not the handshake. Shaking the hands has no form in this situation. Shaking hands is when meeting and greeting and a secondary issue to this is kissing. This opposition in the culture of the people is a far far way. In terms of shaking hands and kissing…in any case, it is not legislated: not shaking hands nor kissing”.

[Fath Dhill-Jalali wal-Ikraam Bi Sharh Bulugh al-Maram (4/437)]

Also Shaikh Yahya al-Hajoori hafidhuhallah likewise detested hugging, kissing, and shaking hands when congratulating the groom/bride in the following fatwa:
